i2-Health Workshop at Medical Informatics Europe (MIE2005) attracts international audience
At the recent congress Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) organised by the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) the i2-Health project held a workshop which attracted quite some audience within the workshop part of the congress. Project Co-ordinator Dr Karl Stroetmann and his collegues Ramin Tavakolian and Stephan Schug presented the overall approach of the Interoperability Initiative and preliminary findings.
The workshop presented both conceptual research and preliminary results from the EU/eTEN-funded i2-Health project.
Currently various EU Member States (MS) are launching initiatives to introduce eHealth infrastructures and applications. They are dealing with critical issues of technical, semantic and workflow interoperability almost exclusively at the regional or national level. These developments threaten to hamper the further development of a European market in eHealth applications and cross-border services. Building upon the activities in MS, the results of European RTD, and learning from efforts on other continents, the project aims to stimulate a process for accelerating the deployment of interoperable eHealth infrastructures and applications for trans-European use.
