eTEN Programme

eTEN is the European Community Programme designed to help the deployment of telecommunication networks based services (e-services) with a trans-European dimension. It focuses strongly on public services, particularly in areas where Europe has a competitive advantage. The programme aims to accelerate the take up of services to sustain the European social model of an inclusive, cohesive society. Its objectives are at the very heart of the eEurope mission of "an information society for all". It promotes public interest services which give every citizen, enterprise and administration full opportunity to gain from the e-Society.

The goal of this European Coordination Action (CA) project is to coordinate planning of national innovation-oriented e-health RTD as the basis for a common road-map and joint RTD activities, thereby establishing an effective European Research Area (ERA) in this key Information Society Technology (IST) field and important European market. Reducing the serious fragmentation of cur-rent planning can be expected to have a strategic impact on regional, national and trans-European e-health infrastructures, improve the quality of medical outcomes and hence the quality of life of citizens in Europe. The CA emerged from an initiative involving 20+ European Union Member States Health Ministries to improve RTD coordination and exploit the potential for European synergy.

European Commission - Information Society

CEN/ISSS eHealth Standardization Focus Group

CEN/ISSS has on the request of the European Commission started a new investigation of standards requirements in the area of "eHealth", in connection with the eEurope 2005 action line and in support of the eHealth Policies of the member states. An open CEN/ISSS Focus Group was created to prepare a report and recommendations on these issues. The group was founded 2003-12-17 and had its last meeting Feb 21, 2005. The group agreed on the report that was revised after the public commenting period.
